Connecting people to their parks
We are a community service organization that believes public parks and green spaces are important for the future of Charleston. We envision a community that understands, experiences, and values these essential public resources.
Our mission is to inspire the people of Charleston to connect with their parks and together create stunning public spaces and a strong community.
We foster community: We know that relationships are at the heart of a healthy community. It begins with enjoying the parks with your neighbors.
Creating exceptional experiences begins with the outdoors where you can lift the spirit, inspire community connectedness, and deepen civic pride.
Park stewardship begins here. We provide the gardening and horticultural expertise to keep our public parks thriving and inviting.

Committed to Preserving Beauty and Enhancing Cleanliness
Keep Charleston Beautiful (KCB) was initially founded in 1977 by the esteemed former Mayor, Joseph P. Riley. Its core mission is to offer education, awareness, and beautification initiatives for both residents and visitors of the City of Charleston.
Keep Charleston Beautiful (KCB) is dedicated to fostering a deep sense of community pride that shines through in the cleanliness and beauty of our beloved city. Through a range of impactful initiatives focused on litter cleanup, beautification efforts, and education, we work tirelessly to create a more vibrant and sustainable Charleston.
By bringing together residents, businesses, and government entities, KCB has developed effective outreach programs that address key issues such as litter prevention, sustainability, and enhancing our city's allure. Our collaborative efforts extend to schools, where we aim to instill litter-free habits, promote environmental consciousness, and inspire youth volunteerism.

Inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards
The Bee Cause Project inspires the next generation of environmental
stewards while protecting our planet’s precious pollinators. We offer a variety
of grants to schools and non-profit organizations across the U.S., Canada,
and beyond. Through our Honey Bee Grants, Pollinator Literacy Grants, and
Pollinator Habitat Grants, we strengthen the connection our participants share
with pollinators and enable curious minds to thrive.
All of our grants include equipment and resources, providing a STEAM-based curriculum that brings the natural world into the classroom. With each beehive, pollinator garden, and library donation thousands of children, families, and educators learn about the issues honey bees face.
Most develop a sense of compassion and responsibility for the honey bee
and other pollinators. The honey bee is an excellent stepping-off point for
learning how interconnected we are through life cycles, food chains, and our
impact and dependence on the environment.

Charleston, South Carolina is a memorable destination city with some of the nation’s oldest history long preserved through community devotion and forethought.
Charleston is home to many specimens of South Carolina palmettos, pastel antebellum architecture, verdant civic spaces, and idyllic wetland landscapes. In a city where tourists and residents alike crave access to the unique flora, dynamic history, and enjoyable experiences - the Parks and Recreation departments have a vital role to play.
These city departments safeguard the quality of physical public space and generate social encounters necessary for making a strong, healthy community. The Charleston Parks and Recreation departments already strive to uplift all members of the community, bringing incredible resources to citizens.
